Volunteering
Many, many organizations of all types rely heavily on volunteers to provide both labor and management in order to operate. No matter what your skills may be, there are opportunities to serve. The reward of feeling that you are making a meaningful contribution of your time to a worthy cause is augmented by the enjoyment that you receive doing something you love, as well as gaining new expertise, meeting new people, and possibly forming relationships with like-minded potential partners.
Volunteering can focus on a range of services, programs, and activities related to:
Charitable Purposes
· Child welfare
· Religion based efforts
· Homelessness
· Food distribution
· Healthcare
· Hospice
· Mental health
· Addiction
· Animal welfare
· Service club
Activism

Private Interests
· Docent: Museums, galleries, tours….
· Tour guide: Local, specialty….
· Events: Festivals, concerts, sport competitions….
· Venue staff: Community theater, model train facility, parks & recreation….
· Club and special interest groups: Flying club, dance club, sex club….
This list is a starting point. There are thousands of opportunities to become engaged. Almost any organized activity we might enjoy can present options as a volunteer. If you can’t find something that appeals to you, consider creating something that does.
Note that not all volunteer opportunities end up being fun or rewarding. It is recommended that you do some research before joining any organization. One way to test your compatibility is to join at a low level to observe and evaluate the operation. It is usually easy to move up the ladder if you so wish by taking on more responsibility and demonstrating reliability.
